Matchmaking for a Cause

(DALLAS – 7/22/19) – On Wednesday, July 24, members of the national touring company of Hello, Dolly! will assemble educational toys and books for low-income and underserved families. This effort was coordinated by Dallas Summer Musicals, the preeminent nonprofit presenter of Broadway theatre in North Texas, and VolunteerNow, a national technology nonprofit headquartered in Dallas that works to transform lives through volunteers.

“The cast is excited to come to Dallas and engage with our community in this way,” said Ken Novice, President of Dallas Summer Musicals. “With this production so focused on matchmaking and connection, we couldn’t think of a better activity than volunteering, and VolunteerNow is really the preeminent matchmaker for volunteers who want to help and nonprofits who need it. We knew we could find a great project with their expertise.”

Hello, Dolly! company members will volunteer at Avance-North Texas, and their efforts will contribute to the nonprofit’s mission of breaking the cycle of inter-generational poverty through innovative education and support of families. Avance-North Texas is one of 3,500 nonprofits supported by VolunteerNow.

“We’re proud to welcome such a talented and generous group to Dallas, and to work with equally inspiring organizations,” VolunteerNow CEO Tammy Richards said. “Dallas Summer Musicals is a leader in our region, and we’re thrilled to see them set the example of community engagement.”

Tony Award®-winning Broadway legend Betty Buckley stars in Hello, Dolly! – the universally acclaimed smash that NPR calls “the best show of the year!” Winner of four Tony Awards including Best Musical Revival, director Jerry Zaks’ “gorgeous” new production (Vogue) is “making people crazy happy!” (The Washington Post). Breaking box office records week after week and receiving thunderous raves on Broadway, this Hello, Dolly! pays tribute to the original work of legendary director/choreographer Gower Champion – hailed both then and now as one of the greatest stagings in musical theater history. Rolling Stone calls it “a must-see event. A musical comedy dream. If you’re lucky enough to score a ticket, you’ll be seeing something historic. Wow, wow, wow, indeed!”

Hello, Dolly! is presented by Dallas Summer Musicals now through July 28 at the Music Hall at Fair Park. Single tickets start at $25 (pricing subject to change) and are available at DallasSummerMusicals.org or by phone at 800-982-2787.
