VolunteerNow included in tech awards

VolunteerNow Chief Technology Officer Jim Watkins was nominated for an ORBIE/DallasCIO of the Year Award for his leadership in expanding www.VOLY.org, the 24/7 connection between volunteers and local service opportunities.

DallasCIO, the preeminent professional association for North Texas senior technology executives, along with the Dallas Business Journal, honored Chief Information Officers at the 2016 Dallas CIO of the Year Awards on Feb. 15, 2017. The award recognizes CIOs for achievements in leadership, innovation, serving others, and creating business value for their organizations.

“VOLY.org has transformed the way we do business at VolunteerNow, even in ways we could not imagine when we started,” Watkins said. “Before VOLY.org, our 45-year-old nonprofit organization was an old school set of manual processes. We are now more akin to a technology startup, utilizing web applications that match volunteers with a nonprofit they are passionate about.”

Watkins was nominated by Sharon Stufflebeme, Vice President at Pariveda Solutions and VolunteerNow Board Member. He and his team have successfully integrated VOLY.org software into communities across Texas – and the nation – as an innovative solution to volunteer management. VOLY.org licenses are now a major part of VolunteerNow’s repertoire of services, and every part of the organization utilizes VOLY.org as its main support structure. Under Watkins’ leadership, VolunteerNow has created custom software for banks, school districts, other nonprofits, businesses and probation processing.

“Jim brought discipline and creativity to the development of VOLY.org, and we are proud to have him on our VolunteerNow team,” VolunteerNow CEO Tammy Richards said. “His leadership will be instrumental as we continue to grow VOLY.org.”
