NVW2017: Senior Source Support

For more than 50 years, The Senior Source has served greater Dallas as the go-to nonprofit for aging services that assist and connect older adults to resources, opportunities and independence. For many years, one of those opportunities includes regular volunteer commitments with VolunteerNow – from managing inventory in our Donated Goods Discount Depots to administrative tasks supporting our large annual events.

“The mutually beneficial relationship is based on an understanding and appreciation of each other and how, together, we can maximize resources to cost-effectively strengthen the community to meet local needs” RSVP Director Gretchen Feinhals said.

Groups that coordinate with Senior Source to support VolunteerNow include the Carrollton Carousers, Richardson Rowdies and the Golden Girls. Without the support of The Senior Source, the VolunteerNow staff would not be able to provide goods to the community at a fraction of the cost or raise funds to keep the lights on, and these volunteers connect to the largest mission of transforming our community through volunteerism.

"Volunteering is to giving back to community," Yasmeen Ali of Golden Girls said. "Volunteering offers help to people worthwhile causes. The more we give, the happier we feel, it increases the self-confidence, it gives us a sense of pride and identity, helping others can help reduce stress and depression, it provides a sense of purpose of life, and so on. The more we volunteer, the more benefits we'll experience."

VolunteerNow is grateful for the thousands of hours donated by members of The Senior Source.
