Same mission. New name. We are VolunteerNow.
The Volunteer Center of North Texas, one of the largest volunteer service organizations in the U.S., has a new name: VolunteerNow.
Founded in 1971, the national thought leader is committed to mobilizing 50,000 volunteers in the next three years under its new name and with a new volunteer matching platform, VOLY.org.
“Volunteering brings people together to serve others. The impact on the community can be as simple as serving a meal to the hungry or as complex as building a house for a family. The effects are both immediate and long-lasting, and the results make our communities a better place to live and work,” VolunteerNow CEO Tammy Richards said. “Our new name reflects how volunteers make a difference in their community, from collaborating with a team to working on their own directly with the nonprofit of their choice.”
VolunteerNow has served more than 3,000 nonprofits and connected more than 33,000 volunteers annually who function as valuable human capital. These volunteers contribute 1.2 million hours each year and generate an estimated economic impact of $28 million across the region.
In late 2013, VolunteerNow launched VOLY.org as a virtual connection point between nonprofits and volunteers. The platform matches volunteers with nonprofits that fit their passions, and nonprofits can post their exact needs.
“VolunteerNow captures the forward-thinking energy and leadership we are committed to providing to North Texas,” Richards said. “VolunteerNow continues to drive the innovations necessary for local nonprofits to succeed by engaging volunteers.”
To celebrate the new name and VOLY.org’s impact on the region, VolunteerNow is hosting the second annual Voly in the Park on Saturday, June 6 at Klyde Warren Park. This volunteer festival is family-friendly and will showcase 75 nonprofits that provide hands-on volunteer projects for all ages. Entertainment will also include musical groups, animal presentations, education information, dancing and more, all provided by area nonprofits.
“While VolunteerNow is a new name, we both honor and continue to build on our heritage of transforming communities through volunteerism,” Richards said. “We firmly believe in the power of volunteers to change everything, and we look forward to a vibrant future for the region that is powered by volunteers.”
