45 Years of Impact: Alexandra Perdomo

VolunteerNow Development Intern Alexandra Perdomo has spent countless hours inspiring, motivating, and mentoring children toward success.

From humble church beginnings to more than 250 hours in her current professional role, Alexandra has volunteered at every opportunity offered. This includes church conferences, stocking food banks, volunteering at Goodwill, and mostly, helping children in need.

“Children are so impressionable, and look to you to mentor them,” Perdomo said. “If you find one that responds to you positively, you may be his or her only opportunity for a positive role model. “

She volunteered and led youth groups at church, attends classes at the University of Texas at Arlington, and worked at the Boys and Girls Club in Arlington. Alexandra rose from an entry level children’s counselor to a Youth Development Leader and Event Director.

“It was the perfect job,” she said. “You’re in school but you’re also doing something that truly matters.”

Alexandra continued to develop her public relations skills and dedication to volunteering during her tenure as VolunteerNow’s Development Intern this summer. She was an invaluable part of a team and directly contributed to the success of one major event, expanding business development through the VolunteerNow Young Leaders Council, raising VolunteerNow’s brand profile through media, and diving headfirst into digital promotion and learning the necessary skills to continue in her field.

While her internship focused on furthering her career, Alexandra recognized the impact her time made on the organization, and the chain reaction of volunteers.

“Everyone can help anybody,” she said. “We don’t need lots of money or special skills. If we just donate our time and efforts, we can make this world better for everyone, one small service at a time.”
